ALBANY PORCELAIN ART CAMP 2011 - 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR!
This unique event which celebrated its 25th Anniversary this year was held at the beautiful Camp Quaranup near Albany between 4th and 7th April. The China Painting Camp has been a great favourite with Guild members for many, many years and numerous members make the trip down to Albany each year to rekindle friendships with other china painters from all around Western Australia.
Sadly it was announced at the Camp that this year would be the last Albany Camp, at least in its present format. Trixie Emery on behalf of the students present eloquently congratulated the Camp Committee for what has been a truly remarkable event and for the achievement in reaching their 25th Anniversary year. There followed many reminiscences and congratulations for the organising Committee with not too many dry eyes in the room!
This year's selection of tutors and subjects was, as in previous years a painter's delight. The four tutors for this camp were Marilyn Barrington from Walpole, Brenda Caelli from Ravensthorpe, Trixie Emery from Queensland and Judith Standing from Perth.
Marilyn Barrington's class painted Pigmy Possums on Red Gum Blossoms. These beautiful little creatures nestled amongst the red gum blossoms were a delight to paint under Marilyn's expert tuition. The student's work was inspired by a variety of backgrounds from graduated metallic finishes to dark nocturnal shadows, all of which framed the beautiful possums to best advantage.

Brenda Caelli returned this year to teach at the Albany Camp and delighted her students with the subject of Purple Crowned Lorikeets. Interesting backgrounds were achieved by using an array of coloured feathers. Again some beautiful work was produced in just a few lessons.

This year Trixie Emery brought Penguins to the Albany Camp. What an absolute joy Trixie is, so talented and so ready to share her vast knowledge. Numerous stunning pieces were produced featuring several different species of Penguins each with a modern, exciting background.
Judith Standing's class painted Calla Lilies in a variety of colours. A band of the student's choice was worked through the background with some outstanding results produced in just a few firings. The subject matter was beautifully rendered in a natural style to a high standard.
Congratulations must go to Brenda Caelli (President) and the Albany Porcelain Art Camp Committee for the marvellous way the Camp was conducted and for the wonderful days of painting, friendship and great fun. It can only be hoped that sometime in the not too distant future the opportunity to paint in Albany with our fellow china painters from all around the State will occur again.
